Welcome back, Pilot
Intro
Welcome to the planetside Rally-Point for books by William K. Shepherd, a Dallas-Fort Worth based Military Science Fiction author, whose focus is on storytelling within the confines of hard Science Fiction.
Work
Mecha-Noir, Reimagined
Grounded technical details, at odds with life and death drama, have always fascinated me:
From the first time I cracked the cover of a Tom Clancy novel, to my continued devouring of James S. A. Corey, Harold Coyle, Ian Douglas, and (of course) Robert A Heinlein’s works, I’ve always been drawn into plausible explorations of humanity’s future. Our brightest advances, and our worst practices, made manifest.
One of the things that inspired me to write was that I could not find what I was looking for: Mecha Combat that focused on the warfighting, in all its gritty, technical detail. After all, they’re first and foremost war machines, and their purpose is slotting into the future of Combined Arms warfare.
Starside Blues is the combination of two passions of mine; realistic depictions of military conflict, and character drama. By sparing none of the grit, smarts, and guile it takes to outwit an opponent in the very real arena of Combat Arms, I believe that it’s possible to craft compelling narratives. Human stories, the very worst of environments bringing out the full range of human interactions.
So, sit back, light up a SynthStick, and pour your choice of poison as you get set for a combat drop with Webber, Reis, and the rest of Valkyrie LLC. Practice the life and death business of war for profit in this Mecha-Noir series, where skill and grit will be tested by earning a living, turning the ledger red with blood.

TIN MAN
Light up a synthstick, and step back into the cockpit in this gritty continuation of the Starside Blues Mecha Noir series. Tin Man drops you feet first into the life and death mechanized combat of its unforgiving Military Science Fiction universe, where the line between man and machine runs razor thin.
01
Starside Blues
Starside Blues is a Noir, Hard Science-Fiction Military Drama that takes the reader on a boozy, jazz and smoke infused romp though the kill or be killed world of mercenary work, at the controls of ‘Mobile Armors’, walking Mechanical Armored Vehicles.
